MLAB’s main areas of practice are EU and Competition Law, although our practice stretches beyond that.

MLAB also advises companies on the problems and opportunities they face due to their market activity and that of their competitors, suppliers and clients as well as to government interventions. Thus, we advise our clients in other areas, such as unfair competition, sector specific regulation (telecommunications, energy, transport, postal, pharmaceutical, digital economy, tobacco, gaming, etc.), intellectual property and dual-use goods.

Given the expertise and experience gained over more than thirty years in all these areas, MLAB is particularly well-placed to advise and defend companies in all areas of activity of the National Commission on Markets and Competition (Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia, CNMC), both in the areas of competition and  sector specific regulation.

The main part of our work consists in advising and defending our clients on restrictive practices (in particular cartels and abuses of a dominant position) and concentrations, sector-specific regulation, claims before civil courts (damages, unfair competition). We also advise against obstacles resulting from public intervention in areas such as State aid or the EU free movement rules, the definition of general regulatory strategies as well as on administrative procedures on licenses, network access disputes, public service obligations, etc.

We represent and defend our clients before any authority or court, whether in Spain or before the EU institutions and have a large experience before the European Commission and the Spanish competition authority as well as the European Courts and the Spanish administrative and civil courts.

The firm also has a significant presence in the expanding area of private enforcement of competition law, both in follow-on damages actions and stand-alone actions before the civil and commercial courts.

Our extensive network of contacts with the most eminent professionals working in our specialist fields around the world enables us to offer our clients the same level of excellence in multijurisdictional cases.

Our main clients are companies and trade associations from a variety of sectors, but MLAB also advises professional associations, collecting societies, and public undertakings.

The firm has also advised institutions and bodies from the European Union, the Spanish Government and various Autonomous Regions.
